Some people or organizations may tell you "there is no such thing as grant funding for businesses," because that's their OPINION! It's their opinion, because that's what they have been TOLD!
The problem is, they just don't know the FACTS -- but of course,it all depends on your business, and the purpose for which you are seeking grant funding.
Now, if you're trying to start a business from scratch, buy a franchise or a building or pay off business debt -- something along those lines, we don't really see grant funding out there for that anymore. We can help you seek other forms of funding, however, such as low-interest loans, small-business loans or government contracts.
A good source that can help you determine if self-employment is right for you could be "The Entrepreneur's Source. For over twenty years they've been the premier source for self-employment options, franchising information, education and training. They can help guide and train you, as well as offer you straight talk about franchise and business opportunities, with no obligation or risk. While we cannot endorse this company, we can tell you that Christine Beatty, a Consultant for The Entrepreneur's Source, will work closely with you to set you on the right path. If you have an existing business and a product that is in demand, for example, you conduct stem-cell research or have developed a product that helps decrease air or water pollution; if you have a new product or system for managing health problems or for working with the disabled, etc. -- those types of business grants are available!
Specialized Grant Funding
If you are seeking funding for your nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, funding for researching a medical product or technique, grant funding for development of innovative technological programs and similar types of programs, there are numerous grant funding opportunities that may suit your needs - whether you are a tax-exempt corporation or a business!
Note that all of the funding and RFPs listed below specifically relate to small business firms or businesses, so when people or the SBA tell you "there is no grant funding for small businesses", they often just aren't aware of what is available. These are just a few examples - there are hundreds more!
Keep in mind, however, that these RFP proposal requests DO NOT relate to "start-up" funds for a business; for the most part, they primarily deal with specific business improvements or research. If you're looking for grant funding to start up a business, chances are you will find such grants few and far between - they just aren't available!
